Meet the Panelists

Trisha Degg, VP of Talent Programs and Operations, ITA

Trisha is the VP of Talent Programs and Operations for Illinois Technology Association – a business services organization focused on helping great tech companies scale. Trisha helps ITA’s 500-plus member companies navigate Chicago’s talent pool to find the best of the best. With almost 10 years of corporate recruiting, campus recruitment, and HR experience, Trisha excels at finding new ways to locate talent, and is passionate about networking. She works with the heads of HR/Talent at ITA companies to help develop and refine their procedures and processes. Trisha’s specialties are talent attraction and retention, organizational development, manager training, interview skills/resume writing, building and refining internship programs, and employment branding. She also acts as Executive Director of ITA's philanthropic arm, TechForward. TechForward's goal is to support STEM education in Illinois, focusing on under-served communities to help promote diversity in STEM careers.

As Director of Human Resources, Alan is responsible for overseeing all Compensation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion matters for industrial AI software provider, Uptake.  Prior to joining Uptake, Alan served as a Talent Business Partner at Avant, where he built the Human Resources foundation for the company's Operations teams.  Before Avant, Alan served as the primary Compensation Consultant at Capital One and its branch network. He was also previously the Wellness, Diversity and Inclusion Program Manager at Discovery Communications. Alan holds an M.B.A from American University and a B.A. from Clark University.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Andre's love for technology started at an early age, eventually leading to a formative education at MIT’s Comparative Media Studies department. Andre has spent the last twelve years helping Fortune 500 and startup companies build successful products with emerging technologies as well as leading and growing technical teams. As a technology leader, Andre’s main competency is on helping client companies build scalable enterprise-level architecture, distributed systems, and mobile applications. Andre’s focus as someone with a minority background in a leadership role is on mentorship, communication, and inclusivity at all levels of ORA’s organization - including transforming internal business practices and focusing on community participation via internships and outreach. He speaks 3 living languages and 4 programming languages fluently.

Ashley Calabro, Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition, Expedia

Ashley Calabro has more than 20 years of progressive Recruiting and HR experience and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland in English Language and Literature. Ashley has been with Expedia Group for the last four years as a Sr. Manager, Talent Acquisition. During the last year, Ashley has been the product owner for several global initiatives and process changes around diversity and inclusion recruiting, running several pilot programs to increase gender diverse hiring in the largest Engineering organization in Expedia. Ashley has held Sr. HR Business Partner roles in healthcare, managed all of the HR function for an educational technology company, run her own consulting firm and has managed several recruiting agencies during her career.

Carlo Navarro, CoFounder, Diversely

Carlo Navarro is a Filipino-American entrepreneur, husband and proud dad to three kids (the ultimate startups) with roots from Detroit, Michigan. His 15 years of startup experience began in 2002 with a career in media-advertising, and later joined IGN Entertainment (IGN.com) in 2005, which was acquired by Fox Interactive Media. His passion for tech led him to join various startup roles at Pandora Radio, Apple Inc., Startup Institute Chicago, as well as founding several tech startups in Chicago beginning in 2007 in the areas of music, ad-tech, and education focused ventures. In addition to Diversely, Carlo also serves as the Executive Director of the Cancer Research Foundation – Chicago Chapter, a non-profit dedicated to investing in early-career cancer researchers to help find a cure. Carlo’s experience has led him to speak at SXSW, Technori, Chicago Ideas Week:Youth, and he was recently named one of ChicagoInno’s 50 on Fire Entrepreneurs in 2017.
